Today in socials we had a test on the native indians of canada, greenland and alaska. Our test we had today was open book and we had partners. The thing that made this test hard was that we had to explain our answers in great detail. Today I learned a few things about the natives and how they lived. I learned about why the inuits used caribou skin as clothing. The clothing used to two layers of caribou skin to make their clothes. They used caribou skin as clothing material because the caribou's hair is hollow and if it has one layer of fur facing in then the other layers fur facing out then the hot air in the fur would build up and make good insulation. I also how learned how the plateau natives built pit houses by digging circular holes in the ground then putting rafters in the ground and draping animal skin over top of the rafters for a roof. Usually the pit houses were built by water sources such as streams. Well thats just a sample of what I learned in socials today. hope you enjoyed my blog today. :)

Today in socials I learned about the new methods of transportation. I learned about the locomotive and what powered and what it did for the industrial revolution. The steam engine is what powered the locomotive. It also powered the steam boat.  The steam engine idea came about when water seeped into coal mines and generated heat, miners had the idea of using it for power. Thats how the steam engine came about. I also worked on my poster about the economic revolution. It shows how the textile industry was the in my mind the most important industry during the I.R. Well thats what I learned and did in socials today.  

today in socials I learned some new vocabulary. Some of the words I learned about are franchise which means to have the right to vote. Another is revolution. It means a complete change in something; overthrow royalty. i learned locomotive. It is a steam powered train that was used during the industrial revolution. It still is used now though anyway thats bascially what we did today. so yeah

Today in socials I learned about agricultural technological advances. I learned that farmers made new breeds of cattle. They did this mostly to make more meat, milk or wool. The animals made more money that way but during the winter. the new animals which were bigger needed much more food which in turn made them much more expensive to take care of which put the farmers in a money crunch. I also learned about pioneers in the agricultural field. They were Jethro Tull and Lord Townshend. They both devoted their lives to the field of agriculture. In doing so made farming much more bearable. Jethro Tull made the seed drill which did all the jobs which workers needed to do in order to plant a seed. The seed drill put 3 or 4 people out of work per each machine. He also invented fertilizer. Lord Townshend also known as Turnip Townshend was known for creating the 4 crop rotation. Thats what I learned in socials today.

Today in socials I learned about the six points which were essential to the industrial revolution.

Today in Socials we had to write stories for different parts of the revolution. Some of those parts were the Fall of Bastille, Elected General, Paris and the King and the Great Fear. We had to write from a person in 17th France's point of view. My group chose a soldiers who was sent to defend Bastille from the mob but ended up joining in. After we did that activity we moved on to more notes and power points and talk about the abolishing of the monarchy by sending Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette to the guillotine, the two main political party's of France. The Girondists, which were the more conservative party and the Jacobins which were very radical and out there with there ideas. I learned about how the Jacobins came to power after a power struggle with the Girondists. I learned about the Jacobins Suspect Law which stated that all nobles and people who held office could be arrested and killed. Well I thinks that's where we left off for today so see ya. :)

Today in socials Hannigan showed us is website for socials. It had all his a power points on there to help us study for test or something. WOOHOO!!! thank you Hannigan. We also had a quiz on what we learned so far in the France unit. After the quiz we did an exercise on Montesquieu, Voltaire and Rousseau. They were different philosophes who had different ideas. We had to make a compare and contrast chart. Well that's what we did in socials today.

Today in socials we played family feud. First we had to make questions for family feud then we played. Usually the questions were like "who did Louis XVI marry" or "Where was Louis XIV's palace." The winning team won a platter of healthy food. Boo bring on the junk food. Anyway the point of that was to help study for the quiz on Monday. That's what we did in socials today.

Today in socials about the Louis after Louis XIV. We mostly talked about Louis XVI because Louis XV didn't so much in french society. Louis XVI did the same things as his dad. He really pissed off the people when he married Marie Antoinette. The reason it pissed off the french people so much was because she was from Austria. Austria was a rival country to France. So there' our first alarm. Our second alarm was when Marie bought a diamond necklace worth more than all of France's annual income. Also when Marie first cam to France she didn't even change to not piss off the french. Well that's what we did in socials today.

Today in socials we talked more about Louis XIV. We learned to that he made all his nobles take ballet lessons so they won't embarrass him by not being graceful. We had ballet demonstrated to us by Marcy Mills and Matthew Cluff. We also talked about his palace in Versailles where him and his nobles lived. We learned that Louis favourite nobles joined him in the Royal Getting Up, the Royal Breakfast, The Royal Lunch, The Royal Dinner and the Royal going to bed. We also talked about how crappy he made Frances Economy. Well that's what we learned in socials today.

Today in socials we studied for our test this Friday on 17th century england. That's basically what we did today

Today in Socials we Answered Three question about puritans and what effect the had on today's life. Some of those questions asked stuff like: What was the most unusual thing that they did and why was it most unusual. They also asked: Who were the Puritans and what things in there society that they did had a longing effect on our community. We also talked about witches and what happened to if they were considered a witch. We also had a quiz that we did in partners. The quiz was about 17 th centuy England and their lifestyles.
Well thats about it for what we did in socials today.

Today in socials we talked about where we are compared to England. We also talked about how England became wealthier using their trading to gain money. We also talked about the classes of early 1700's England and how well off they were. There were three classes of society. There an upper class. The upper class was usually the kings, the kings advisers, nobles and high church officials. Usually the upper class lived in town and country houses and were very cruel and unfair. They usually gained most of their money by declaring unfair taxes. The Middle Class was still well off and the upper middle class lived in town houses and country houses as well but still didn't get as much money as the upper class. The lower class worked their fingers to the bone for 10 pennies or less than had to pay most of it to the king. The lower class lived in cramped, small homes. The lower class had a very low quality of living. Also today in socials we had to pick a question for the week to answer. My question what happened in the plane crash in suburban Buffalo. Well that's what we learned in socials today.

Today in socials we learned a bit more about the scientific revolution. We also learned how kings gained power and their taxes. We learned about taxes through skittles...Yummm skittles. Well thats about it for today

Today in socials we played football. The purpose of the football was to show where the maritime provinces were. We also had a party weekend to figure out what the capitals were of these provinces. I learned that the capital of New Brunswick is Fredericton, Nova Scotia's capital is Hailifax, Prince Edward Island's capital is Charlottetown and Newfoundland and Labradour's capital is St. Johns.
